Request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data

⚠️ Permanent Action

ACCOUNT DELETION IS PERMANENT AND CANNOT BE UNDONE. Once deleted, you will not be able to recover your data, messages, files, or community memberships.

How to Delete Your Account

Option 1: Delete from the App (Recommended)

  1. Open the Diaspora Link app on your device
  2. Go to Profile → Settings
  3. Scroll to Danger Zone section
  4. Tap "Delete Account"
  5. Enter your password to confirm your identity
  6. Check the acknowledgment box and tap "Delete My Account"
  7. Confirm the final warning to complete deletion

Option 2: Request via Email (Alternative)

  1. Send an email to contact@diaspora-link.com
  2. Use the subject line: "Account Deletion Request"
  3. Include your registered email address in the email body
  4. We will verify your identity and process your request within 30 days

What Data Gets Deleted

The following data will be permanently and irreversibly deleted:

  • Profile & personal information
  • Posts, comments & likes
  • Job listings & applications
  • Housing listings
  • Ride-sharing posts
  • Messages (your copies)
  • Resumes & documents
  • Photos & videos
  • Notification settings
  • Login credentials

Data Retention & Exceptions

Retention Timeline

  • Immediate: Profile hidden from other users, content removed from public view, authentication disabled
  • Within 24 hours: All data permanently deleted from active databases
  • Within 90 days: All data removed from backup systems (unless required by law)

Data That May Be Retained

Message recipients: Other users' copies of messages you sent are not affected by your deletion.

Marketplace transactions: Order records, payment transaction IDs, and related financial records are retained for up to 7 years as required for tax compliance and fraud prevention, even after account deletion. Payment data held by Stripe is subject to Stripe's own retention policies.

Legal compliance: Some data may be retained as required by law for fraud prevention, tax records, legal holds, or active investigations.

Anonymized data: Aggregated analytics that cannot identify you (e.g., "total users by region") may be retained indefinitely.

Important Information

We strongly recommend downloading your data before deleting your account. You can do this in the app: Settings → Your Data Rights → Download My Data.

If you wish to use Diaspora Link again after deletion, you must create a new account from scratch. Your previous data, messages, and community memberships cannot be restored.
